If you are teaching young ones, or first time sewers here are 10 tips!

  1. Make the project age appropriate.
  2. Try:  Sew with paper and no thread - create designs.
  3. Try:  Sew with paper and varigated thread - create cards.
  4. Start with small projects all cut and ready to sew.
  5. Start with a new needle and new top and bobbin thread.
  6. Take fun breaks! Don't sew for long periods of time.
  7. Share your mistakes! Don't dwell on ripping out and what went wrong.
  8. Remember - Ann's "projects" only look good riding by on horseback!
  9. Have fun - enjoy the time together.
  10. Reward when finished and let them SHOW OFF their stuff!

Quilting and Sewing - First and Foremost Tips

You must measure and cut accurately and slowly, before you sew. No amount of fussing will correct "not enough" fabric. So please SLOW DOWN when you measure and cut. Don't try to rush into projects. Sewing is a stress-reliever!

Simple Tips from Ann that might Help for Your Sewing Success

  • I can sew and cut detailed projects early in the day.
  • In the evening I can cut large parts of my projects and do straight stitch sewing.  My projects get completed accurately and I don't feel so overwhelmed.
  • In the evening I read over new projects directions too! If I find something not quite clear, I mark it and go back over it again in the morning.

Call or stop in at ETC for supplies, equipment and expert help

Quilting is good for the mind and the spirit, if you allow it to be. Creating in general is good for you, no matter what the technique you choose. Quilting, sewing, basket making, knitting, crocheting, felting, tatting, spinning, weaving... Find a craft that you enjoy that allows you to be creative and allows you to unwind and enjoy the time.

Enjoy your next project. Please don't make it harder than it needs to be. Learning is fun! Doing for others is fun! Enjoy your time to be creative. Enjoy your project. Enjoy the day - I'll be in touch - ann @
